Welcome

Hello. On this site, you will find all of the creative, imaginative, projects and accomplishments created by my students in STEM. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. My name is Ms. Cox and I am a math teacher here at Woodland High School. I also get the opportunity to be the teacher of the STEM class here at Woodland. In this class, students get to work in groups to study, discuss, build, and test concepts and ideas. Some of the major concepts they get to do this with are energy-efficiency, sky-scrapper/tower construction, coding/programming. Students are in charge of their own designs/concepts and then they get to bring those ideas to life using house hold items.

For students to be able to take part in this class, they need to be enrolled in Geometry and they have to have passed Chemistry. We discuss a lot of concepts across the curriculum. Students learn about energy, green-houses, solar affects, coding, and so much more so it is important for them to have a solid math and science background.

An key part of STEM is the technology part. We use a lot of technology in our classroom. We use Texas Instruments nspire CAS calculators. Along with the calculators, we use the add-ons. Those add-ons include temperature probes, current probes, motion detectors, circuit boards, hubs, rovers, and so much more. Students get to use the calculators and add-ons to test their final projects. These students get to see and analyze their data right on the calculator as it comes through.

In the upper right hand corner of the page, you will find all of the pages that are included in my site.

  • On the pictures page, I have included pictures of the students building and testing their designs, finished projects, and guest speakers.
  • On the projects page, you will find descriptions and links to specific parts of the project, as well as links to the PowerPoints, handouts, etc.
