December 2020 Remote Learning

December 2020 Remote Learning Decision
Posted on 12/01/2020

Woodland Educational Community,

Today I set to write a letter to you all welcoming you back to in person learning on Monday.  But our staff took a turn for the worst this morning as the Covid virus hit us hard. Positive tests in the past few hours have led to 10-staff members to be out because of infection and/or quarantines.  The heath department will be testing some 7-staff members in the next few days because of contacts inside the building. In many regards the Livingston County Health Department considered us lucky that students were not in the building the past few days as that number of quarantined/infected would have doubled or tripled due to contacts the staff members would have had during a regular in person school day.

Our testing center has worked very well, with our nurse Shawna meeting with some 13 Woodland students, staff, and families over the past three days for tests.  Of the 13 tests, 8 of them have come back positive. (Test Accuracy is 95%).  That alarming rate of 62% positive does not bode well for us either (the rate is supposed to be under 10%).

In discussing with the LCHD and the Board of Education this morning it was decided that going to remote learning is in the best interest of the health and safety of the students, staff, and Woodland community in hopes that the spread diminishes from the Thanksgiving Holiday.
