Dear Livingston County Community,

March 17, 2026’s Election will have a question for voters that affects our Livingston County
schools in a YES or NO format (also see the example below this letter):

In addition to school facility purposes, shall Livingston County school districts be authorized
to use revenues from the tax commonly referred to as the school facility sales tax that is
currently imposed in The County of Livingston, Illinois, at a rate of 1% for school resource
officers and mental health professionals?

A YES vote means for you as a taxpayer, for teachers, for students, for schools:

NO NEW TAXES. This simply provides more flexibility on how the funds are used
Flexibility for schools to use the 1% sales tax funds we already collect for School  Resource Officers, Guidance Counselors, Social Workers and Behavioral Health Specialists

A NO vote keeps the funds restricted solely to school facility maintenance and improvements

What is the CURRENT 1% Sales Tax currently used for in districts?

Safety and Security Improvements, New School Facilities, Additions and Renovations, Land Acquisition, Energy Efficiency, Architectural Planning and Engineering, Durable Equipment

Must a school district use these funds for School Resource Officer or Mental Health Professional?

NO – There is NO requirement associated with this measure – it simply allows a school district more flexibility on how to use these funds

Local school boards will still be responsible for how new dollars are applied to approved facility needs in each district and/or use for SRO or Mental Health Personnel.

Districts are audited annually to verify sales tax revenues are being used as approved.
Again, a YES vote does NOT increase taxes, it increases flexibility.
Thank you.
