Woodland Message to Families: Updated School Closing Dates

Dear Woodland CUSD #5 Students, Staff, Families, and Community Members,

I write to you with updated information regarding Governor Pritzker’s message this afternoon. In it he extended the days of school closings to continue through the day on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 with a tentative reopening date of Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Just as we did this week, Woodland CUSD #5 will continue our E-Learning Program Monday through Friday through the day on April 7 th , 2020.

We recognize that this development may raise questions about the impact on students, staff, and families as well as the school’s vital role of providing a quality education for your child. But this time is unprecedented and we as district feel it is in the best interest of our students to continue with trying to educate your students in the best way which allows. I would expect and anticipate further guidance and details from the Illinois State Board of Education this coming week.

Just as important, Governor Pritzker issued an executive order requiring residents to “stay at home” effective Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 5:00 pm, through the end of the day April 7, 2020. I plead with you to try your best to follow this order and remain home if permitted. It is likely the only way that this virus ends, and we get back to normal life and a normal school schedule.

We want you to know the governor’s office has assured school districts that school personnel involved in providing meals will not be in violation of the governor’s executive order and that we can, and should, continue with our weekly Monday program, which has a tremendous impact in making sure our students are not going hungry while school is closed.

So, if you would like 7-Breakfasts and 7-Lunches for the week for any child age 18 and under, please complete the online form below or contact myself or Mr. Burcenski.

Please use this opportunity to focus on staying safe and helping to slow the spread of the virus.  As always, thank you for your patience and support as we all work through the COVID-19 Pandemic. As you have seen, this situation is evolving rapidly. As events unfold, we will continue to communicate in a timely and transparent manner.

Please remember that all Woodland School Programming, Before and After School Activities, Woodland Athletic Practices and Contests, and Weekend Events held at Woodland are Canceled From: Monday, March 16, 2020 at 7:00 PM until at least 7:00 AM Wednesday, April 8, 2020
We will continue to work through this together.

Yours in education and in health,

Ryan McGuckin
Woodland CUSD #5
