Woodland 2020 Seniors Graduation Plan.

Woodland CUSD #5 2020 Senior Graduation Plan.
Posted on 05/08/2020

Seniors and Senior Parents,

Below are the components of our Class of 2020 Graduation program that will be held on Sunday, May 24th, 2020.  It will look a different than years past but based on projections of being allowed to have large gatherings of people, students going into the service, students going away to college and trade schools, and students moving away, we feel taking the option of “individual graduations” for each student and their family is the best way to highlight, reward, and honor each of our graduates.  May 24th accommodates more students and their families than any of the other options in June, July, or September.  Much of the plan which will be highlighted below will look a lot like what I sent to you last week with a few minor changes based upon guidance from IDPH, ISBE, Local Health Department, School Attorney, and School’s Insurance Carrier.

Important Items:

  • We can only have 10-people in the gym at a time
    • Graduate, 5 family members, principal, superintendent, board member, photographer
  • We must provide a photographer per guidance from ISBE
  • All people are asked to wear a mask into the school building
  • We will not be able to shake hands or hand a graduate anything during the ceremony so items will be set out accordingly to accommodate this direction
  • We can NOT make restrooms or refreshments available

Attached you will find a sheet with each graduate’s name, times, and schedule.

It is imperative of two things:

  • You arrive on-time to the locations being asked of you
  • You exit the property when asked to avoid the “large gatherings guidelines” set by our Governor

Example:

Arrival (Parking Lot)

Diploma and Program (Front Door)

Flowers (MPR)

Grad Time (Big Gym)

Return To Parking Lot

Exit Property

10:45

10:50

10:55

11:00

11:10

11:15

Our “Individualized Graduation Plan” for each student is as follows:

  • Gym set up for graduation – flowers, balloons, programs, stages, and diplomas
  • One graduate and the graduate family in the gym at a time
  • Everyone gets dressed up – Caps and gowns for graduates and be dressed up underneath just like a traditional graduation
  • Families can bring 5 “bodies” to the graduation with them to watch in person (Meaning a 2-month-old, 30 year old, 18 year old, and an 89-year-old counts as “1” each)
  • Family standing in the first few rows (Sitting in chairs is now off limits) – we will make this work for the time you are in there for comfort
  • Graduate processions in
  • Run through a condensed version of graduation that we all know
  • Greetings and acceptance of class
  • Presentation of flowers to your parents
  • Reading of the graduate name
  • Diploma and pictures, pictures, and more pictures
  • Throwing of the graduate hat
  • Lots of clapping
  • Graduate procession out
  • Live steaming of event through our Woodland YouTube and Facebook Channels

This is not a perfect situation, but it is the best situation we can accommodate based upon the regulations and guidelines set for by the Governor and ISBE.  We will do our best to provide a situation and family that is as close to graduation as possible, just without the huge audience.  Please let me know if you have any questions as we proceed, and we will see you on the 24th at your given time slot.

Stay Well,

Dr. Ryan McGuckin
